Smithson Intervention
September 25th, 2005, just before dawn. Lan Tuazon, Duke Riley and Marie Lorenz launched an invasion of Robert Smithson’s posthumous public art project, the Floating Island. The culmination of months of planning, days of reconnaissance, and hours of alcohol consumption, our plan was to stow away and ride the Smithson barge around Manhattan. Although we managed to successfully clamber aboard, our occupation of the island was brief. We were spotted by the U.S. Coastguard, who gave chase and captured us.
